Alliance Music Publications has released a new arrangement of the Sacred Harp hymn “The Promised Land” as arranged by San Francisco State University's Professor David Xiques. “In this arrangement of “The Promised Land,” [Xiques] preserved the notes of the soprano, alto, tenor and bass parts of the shape note hymn as found in ‘The Sacred Harp,’ but took liberty to assign the notes to the voice parts differently as found in the original hymn… Chorus members should sing their parts simply and with minimal vibrato in keeping with the accepted performance style of shape note hymns. The rhythm should be strict and the beat driving forward with marked language and clear pronunciation.”

This will be Xiques third arrangement released with Alliance. The publication is accompanied by a recording of the new arrangement as performed by the San Francisco University Chorus, conducted by Xiques.
