Yuchen Liu, Double bassist, performs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. She regularly plays with the San Francisco Symphony, Oakland Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, and Stockton Symphony.

She began her music studies at age nine, three years later, she attended middle school in the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where she started her professional music performance training. In 2008, She was invited to get her bachelor in music performance with full scholarships from the National University of Singapore, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. She attended the Festival Contrabass Kaleidoscope 2013 in Berlin, and was invited to perform at the closing concert as a soloist. She was honored to be selected to be the bassist for the “Phantom of the Opera” world tour 2014 in Singapore. While she was completing her M.M at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Yuchen discovered a true passion for Orchestra from her primary teacher- Scott Pingel. Which led her to get the Academy Orchestra’s Artist Diploma in Orchestra Studies where she studies with Charles Chandler.

In addition to performing, Yuchen is also passionate about teaching. As an educator, Yuchen is the Double Bass teaching artist with San Francisco Symphony’s Music and Mentors Program, working with Middle School and High School students in the San Francisco Public schools.

She believes the power of music is created from the heart and made by emotion. It causes emotions to well up within us, it creates different types of feelings in listeners. Knowing how to listen and understanding how to feel are the best gifts from music education.
