Audition Overview

In accordance with San Francisco Department of Public Health guidelines San Francisco State University is cancelling all events and face-face classes through April 5, 2020.  Read the latest updates from SF State.  **If you had scheduled an audition for an upcoming date please keep an eye on your email for additional instructions.** 

 

 

 

 

The School of Music holds audition dates throughout the academic year.  To schedule an audition and/or placement exams, please complete the School of Music Audition form.  Audition/Placement Exam requirements are listed below for each degree program.

Audition/Placement Exam dates for 2019-2020

  • Friday, August 23, 2019 
  • Friday, August 30, 2019 
  • Friday, December 13, 2019 
  • Friday, January 24, 2020 (PLACEMENT EXAM ONLY)
  • Friday, February 14, 2020 
  • Friday, March 13, 2020 - CANCELED
  • Friday, April 3, 2020 - CANCELED
  • Friday, August 21, 2020 (PLACEMENT EXAM ONLY)

Audition sign-in begins at 9AM. Please reserve the entire morning for your audition and placement exams. A confirmation email with your audition date, exact time, and location will be sent 2 weeks prior to your audition date.

**If you sign-up for an audition less than 2 weeks prior to the audition date you will not receive an immediate response but will be contacted prior to the audition.**

Bachelor of Arts in Music

Auditions and placement exams are not required to enter the Bachelor of Arts program.  However, we recommend that all entering B.A. students take the placement exams so you can be placed in a class appropriate to your skill level.

To register for placement exams please complete the School of Music Audition form.

Bachelor of Music

Students entering the Bachelor of Music program are required to audition and take the placement exams.

Master of Arts in Music

Students entering the Master of Arts in Music program are not required to audition but are required to take the graduate level placement exams

To register for placement exams please complete the School of Music Audition form.

Master of Music

Students entering the Master of Music Program are required to audition and take the graduate level placement exams
